October 14. 2009 2:01PM
Military veterans are traveling across the country on a 21-state bus tour to talk to citizens and local community leaders about the dangers of climate change and its threat to national security. The tour will make stops in South Dakota on Oct.15.
The tour will be at the Goss Opera House, 100 E. Kemp Ave., in Watertown at 1 p.m., and at the Sioux Falls VFW, 3601 S. Minnesota Ave., at 4 p.m.
The tour is sponsored by Operation Free, a coalition of veterans and national security groups working together to raise public awareness about national security threats posed by climate change and the importance of building a clean energy economy that is not tied to fossil fuels.
In conjunction with the tour, the veterans group VoteVets.org is running a heavy buy of radio ads in Watertown and Sioux Falls featuring a local veteran urging Senators Johnson and Thune to support clean energy legislation in Congress.
Operation Free and its members are encouraging Congress to pass energy legislation that cuts carbon pollution, develops clean energy incentives, and puts America in control of its energy future.
