Lynx to run for state cross country titles Saturday in Rapid City

The 34th Annual Girls and 64th Annual Boys State Cross Country meets will be held at the Elks Golf Course in Rapid City on Saturday.

The meet schedule is as follows: “B” girls, noon; “A” girls, 12:30 p.m.; “B” boys, 1 p.m.; “A” boys, 1:30 p.m.; “AA” girls, 2 p.m.; “AA” boys, 3:15 p.m. Awards presentations will be made as follows: Class “A” and “B” awards, 2:30 p.m.; Class “AA” awards, 3:45 p.m.

A total of 355 girls and 357 boys have qualified to run in the State Meet.

2008 Class B girls’ champion, Mindy Kraft of Wessington Springs, will be returning to defend her title, as will 2008 Class A girls’ champion, Lottie Grimshaw of Todd County, and 2008 Class AA girls’ champion, Megan Hilson of Yankton. Jeffrey Mettler of Eureka/Bowdle will be returning to defend his title as Class B’s boys’ champion. There will be a new champion in the Class A boys’ race this year, since last year’s champion, Kiko Mendoza, CEB, has graduated. Class AA boys defending champion, Josh Heitkamp, Sioux Falls Washington, will be returning to defend his title.

The defending boys' team champions are: Class "AA" - Yankton; "A" – Cheyenne Eagle Butte; and Class "B" – Wessington Springs.

The defending girls' team champions are: Class "AA" – Sioux Falls Roosevelt; Class "A" – Chamberlain; and Class "B" – Kadoka.

Trophies will be given to first and second place teams and plaques to the third and fourth place teams. Medals will be given to the first 25 individual places in each class and to the top four teams in each class.

All boys' classes will run 5,000 meters (3.11 miles), while all girls’ classes will run 4,000 meters (2.49 miles).
