Lady Dragons are Region 2A XC champs

The Garretson girls won their second Region 2A title in the last three years by claiming three of the top 10 places in the Oct. 15 race at Dell Rapids. The Blue Dragon boys were fourth in the eight-team competition.
Garretson qualified six girls and one Dragon boy for this week’s state meet, which features the top 20 boys and girls and top three teams from each region.
Lindsey Bohl and Erin Nolz were one and two in the girl’s race. Bohl cruised to a 16:21.40 finish, while Nolz clocked in at 16:26.95. Garretson’s Taylor Tillma was sixth in the pack with her time of 16:45.65.
The Lady Dragons had two others place in the top 20. Cassidy Powell and Shelby Ellefson were 14th and 18th, respectively, with their course effort of 17:19.42 and 17:31.61.
Also making the trip to the state show is Kayla Wieskus, who was 24th in the pack of 50 runners with her time of 19:18.12.
Andrew Oveson was the lone Blue Dragon boy to race to a top 20 finish. Oveson paced himself to an 11th place ranking with his run of 18:20.68.
The Lady Dragons will vie for the Class A crown this Saturday in Rapid City. The girls take the course at 12:30 p.m. and the boy’s race is set for a 1:30 p.m. start.
