Lynx JV boys off to 3-0 start
The Lynx junior varsity boys are off to a 3-0 start in the 2012-13 basketball season. Brandon Valley posted wins against Mitchell (50-36), Yankton (45-35) and Pierre (68-55).
“The JV is off to a great start,” said coach Bill Freking. “The team has been playing very hard and had their best defensive effort of the year against Pierre.”
In the Mitchell contest, Kevin Petersen led the charge with 14 points and Devan West added 12.
Petersen was also a scoring leader in the team’s win over the Bucks. He, along with Dominic Nealy both netted 10 points. Cole Albertson led the effort with 14 points.
West and Petersen were leaders on the boards with six and five rebounds, respectively.
Albertson’s 23 points propelled the Lynx to victory at Pierre. Jon Heiberger and Nealy tossed in eight and seven points, respectively.
BV sophs squeak out 39-38 win
Brandon Valley scored one more point in the fourth quarter than the host Brookings Bobcats, and that was just enough arsenol to pull off the 39-38 victory in sophomore boys basketball action last week.
Drew Reinschmidt and Peter Choudek led the charge with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Choudek and Tyler Erck were leaders on the boards, with three apiece.
JV boys improve to 4-0
Brandon Valley’s junior varsity boys basketball team improved their season mark to 4-0 following their dominating 83-45 win over the Brookings Bobcats Dec. 18.
The Lynx JV’s aggressive play forced 18 Brookings turnovers.
The Lynx also shot a lights out 56 percent from the field, 28 of 50, and netted 5 of 12 from beyond the arc. At the free throw line, Brandon Valley converted 12-18.
Brookings was limited to 34 percent from the field, 9-26. They had better fortune at the free throw line, where they converted 15 of 19 (78 percent).
Four Lynx finished in double digits. Leading the effort was Ryan Immeker’s 16 points. Dominic Nealy and Ryan Sjoberg each scored 11 and Kevin Petersen had 10. Cole Albertson chipped in nine.
Trevor Hornig scored a dozen points for the Bobcas and Jared Tschetter had eight.
The Lynx had the edge on the boards as well, 23-15. Petersen hauled in six and Albertson had four. Nealy and Albertson each picked off three of the team’s 12 total steals.
Splitrock Ladies League
The Splitrock Ladies bowled Dec. 18 with the following results: High team game and series: Alliance Communications, 866 and 2,500. High individual game and series: Cheryl Lyngen, 200 and 478.
Cas Bly bowled 59 pins over her average with a 184 game. Cheryl Lyngen bowled 55 pins over her average in her 200 game.
Connie Gaspar-Bohl picked up the 5-6 split, Bonnie Kramer picked up the 5-7 and 3-10 splits, Marcia Bork picked up the 3-7 split, Bev Wassenaar picked up the 2-7 split and Ellaine Kenriksen picked up the 4-5-7 split.
Manley Tire was the first-half champions.
