Celebrate ‘Read Across America’ at various library programs

In celebration of Read Across America and the birthday of children’s author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss, Siouxland Libraries will offer a make-and-take craft activity at the Main Library this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The program will include a visit by The Cat in the Hat.
Read Across America storytimes for preschoolers and their families featuring Dr. Seuss stories will be held on Tuesday, March 5, at 10:05 a.m. at the Main Branch; 10:15 a.m. at the Brandon Branch; and 10:30 a.m. at the Hartford Branch. On Wednesday, March 6, special storytimes will be held at 10:05 a.m. at the Oak View Branch and the Ronning Branch; 10:30 a.m. at the Crooks Branch; and 10:05 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. at the Caille Branch. Read Across America storytimes will be held on Thursday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the Humboldt Branch and the Garretson Branch. On Saturday, March 9, special storytimes will be held at 10 a.m. at the Colton Branch and 11 a.m. at the Main Branch.
The feature-length film based on Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax will be shown at the Ronning Branch on Tuesday, March 19, at 3 p.m. The movie based on the book The Cat in the Hat will be screened at the Main Branch on Saturday, March 9, at 2:30 p.m.
Read Across America programs are free, but seating may be limited. Groups of 10 or more must register in advance to attend by calling 367-8710.
Originally created by the National Education Association as a one-day event to celebrate the joy of reading on March 2, Read Across America has grown into a nationwide initiative promoting the importance of reading every day of the year.
