The Lynx boy’s club soccer team closed out their regular season action with a 6-1 road win at Brookings last Tuesday.
The victory assured Brandon Valley home field advantage for their state tournament play-in game, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the McHardy Park Soccer Complex. The boys will face a familiar foe when they host the Brookings Bobcats.
The winner of that game advances to the state tournament, which will be played in Sioux Falls Oct. 17-19.
On Tuesday, the Bobcats attacked the Lynx goal early on in the game, hitting pay dirt in the 2nd minute of play. Brookings held the lead until the 31st minute when Brandon Valley’s Riley Swenson scored on a pass from Cody Woessner to knot the game at 1-1.
Woessner was in scoring mode again minutes later finding the Bobact goal on a header sent toward the net from the far sideline by Jordyn Henderson.
The Lynx offense wasn’t done yet. In the final minute of the opening stanza, the scoring roles reversed when Henderson scored on a pass from Woessner to push the lead to 3-1.
The Lynx offense picked up right where they left off, scoring immediately in the second half on a pass from Ryan Williams to Tyler Limmer.
Limmer stepped up again 20 minutes later for the Lynx after intercepting Brookings pass. Brandon Valley’s final score of the game came on a pass from Woessner to Henderson, who dribbled the ball through the Bobcat defense and drilled a left-footed shot into the goal.
