RAPID CITY, S.D. - A welcome home ceremony will be held for 124 Soldiers of the South Dakota Army National Guard's 235th Military Police Company on Monday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. (MT) at the Rapid City Rushmore Plaza Civic Center's Fine Arts Theater. The unit completed a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The public is encouraged to attend. Gov. Dennis Daugaard, Rapid City Mayor Sam Kookier and Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch, adjutant general of the SDNG, are planned speakers for the ceremony.
Members of the Rapid City and Sioux Falls-based 235th arrived in the United States on Dec. 14 and have been completing demobilization requirements at Fort Bliss, Texas, before returning to South Dakota.
The 235th's mission was to provide security for U.S. military personnel, installations and facilities.
This is the third mobilization for the 235th, which deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle in Fort Carson, Colo., in 2003 and in support of OEF in Afghanistan in 2006.
