Allan G. Doering, 54
Memorial services for Allan Gene Doering, 54, of Sioux Falls, were held Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon.
Mr. Doering died unexpectedly, at home, on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014.
Allan Gene Doering was born Oct. 16, 1959, in Sioux Falls, to A.G. and Danielle (Ogdie) Doering. He attended school at the Crippled Children’s Hospital and School for several years and graduated from Washington High School in 1978. Allan then attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota-Springfield with associate degrees in computer science and mathematics as well as a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He taught school in Brookings before he moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where he taught at Brown Institute. He worked as an engineering consultant for Manley Group for several years before his illness forced him into early retirement.
Allan, despite his physical challenges, was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to go hunting, fishing, camping, and kayaking with his best friends, Stuart and Patrick. He also loved to travel.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Danielle and Roy Ehlen, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Laurie Nelson, Brandon, and Linda (Kevin) Fountain, Colton; one brother, Royce Ehlen, Sioux Falls; nieces and nephews, Ashlie (Ryan) Wingate, Brandon, Blake Nelson, Valley Springs, Casey Nelson, Brandon, Jamie (Matthew) Jones, Sioux Falls, and Talon Sauers, Sioux Falls; two great-nephews, Keegan and Koen Wingate, Brandon; and his two best buddies, Stuart Walker and Patrick Donelan.
Allan was preceded in death by his father, A.G. Doering; and one sister, Marie Ehlen.

Gary A. Karoly, 67
Gary A. Karoly, 67
Funeral services for Gary A. Karoly, 67, of Brandon, were held Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Brandon Valley Assembly of God Church in Brandon. Interment was in the Turkey Valley Baptist Cemetery, Irene.
Mr. Karoly died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.
Gary Ames Karoly was born to John and Edna May (Jones) Karoly on Aug. 3, 1946 in Eatonville, MS. He grew up in the Hattieburg, Miss., area and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg in addition to a Master of Divinity earned at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Gary also had post-graduate education in Theology. In addition, he served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1967.
Through the years Gary owned and operated Karoly Construction Company and built new homes, churches and commercial buildings in four states. An ordained Methodist minister, Gary served United Methodist and independent congregations in three states and enjoyed being a pastor, counselor and evangelist for 38 years. He also passed on his knowledge as a college professor, k-12 administrator, principal and teacher.
Mr. Karoly is survived by his wife, Karen; four children, Ame' Karoly, Hong Kong, Thomas R. (Diana) Mortimer III, Bolingbrook, Ill., Nichole (Lynn) Justesen, Elmwood, Neb., Matthew (Celena) Mortimer, Spalding, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three siblings, David (Bitsey) Karoly, Purvis, Miss., Jackie (Mike) Smith, Mike, Purvis, Miss., Joseph Karoly, Moselle, Miss; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Donald Nussbaum, 74
Funeral services for Donald D. Nussbaum, 74, of Garretson, were held Monday, March 3, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Burial was in the Palisade Cemetery.
Mr. Nussbaum died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Palisade Manor in Garretson.
Donald Delano Nussbaum was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Luverne, Minn., to Henry and Annie (Anderson) Nussbaum. He grew up in the Garretson area and attended Garretson High School. He then went to carpentry school and worked as a finish carpenter and farmed in the Garretson area.
Donald married Diane Rademacher June 11, 1960, at Palisade Lutheran Church, Rock County, Minn. Don took pride in carpentry work and enjoyed hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Robin (Kevin) Baum, Garretson, Lisa (Brett Williams) VanDeBerg, Garretson, Nicole (Todd) Mortrude, Omaha., Neb., Kim (Wayne) Mortrude, Dell Rapids; 11 grandchildren, Joel (Jen) Zweep, Thomas (Dawn) Zweep, Justin, Shane, and Mara VanDeBerg, Jordyn Williams, Mitchell and Morgan Frewaldt, Seth Mortrude, and Zoe and John Mortrude; five step-grandchildren, Shani Smith, Tara Valla, Abbie Peterson, Jessie Baum, and Camryn Mortrude; two great grandchildren, Jordyn Kuphal and Avery Zweep; siblings, LaVonne Gibson, Merle Nussbaum and Donna Wagner, all of Sioux Falls, and Norm Nussbaum, Garretson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert; a sister Joanne Huslander; and a
granddaughter, Jacquie Zweep.
