Intermediate school bid process moving forward
March 13. 2014 9:20AM
The new intermediate school designs are almost complete. The engineers and architects are hard at work putting the final touches on the detailed specifications and drawings that we need to have the project ready for bidding. The current plan is to send the project out to contractors on March 21 and open bids on April 17.
This should be an attractive project for our local contractors so we are anticipating a very competitive bid process. Once the winning bidder is determined we will be hoping to see dirt work getting started in very early May. The intermediate school has a scheduled opening in August of 2015.
This new building will be constructed on a parcel just west of Robert Bennis Elementary and will serve all the fifth and sixth grade students in the district. Moving the fifth graders out of the elementary schools will give them space for future growth and taking the sixth graders out of the middle school will have the same benefit for the middle school.
We are anxiously awaiting the bids, construction and opening of this new building in Brandon Valley. We believe the intermediate school concept will have many benefits for our students.
