In honor of Senator Tim Johnson’s longtime career of public service, the South Dakota Democratic Party is hosting a “Tribute to Tim” McGovern Day dinner with Senator Tim Johnson and special guest Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) on Saturday, April 26, in Sioux Falls.
“Senator George McGovern was a champion of everyday South Dakotans,” says South Dakota Democratic Party Chair Deb Knecht. “Senator Tim Johnson has continued McGovern’s legacy. That’s why we're excited to host a ‘Tribute to Tim’ McGovern Day dinner to honor Senator Tim Johnson’s service to South Dakota with special guest Senator Jon Tester of Montana.”
A former teacher and rancher, Sen. Tester won his reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2012. He serves on the Senate Banking Committee that Sen. Johnson chairs.
Rebranded in 2002 from the Party’s Jefferson/Jackson Day, McGovern Day is the largest annual event for the South Dakota Democratic Party. Now in its 12th year, this celebration is a lasting historic tribute to a statesman and his era.
McGovern Day will be held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, 1101 N. West Ave. Block rooms are available at the Sheraton under “McGovern Day.” In addition to the evening dinner and its receptions, daytime McGovern Day events include a luncheon with gubernatorial candidates Rep. Susan Wismer and Joe Lowe.
Evening dinner tickets may be purchased individually for $65 and tables of 10 may be purchased for $600. Admission to the luncheon is $35. Advance tickets may be purchased at www.sddp.org/mcgovernday/ or by sending a check made payable to “SDDP” at South Dakota Democratic Party, PO Box 1485, Sioux Falls, SD 57101.
Tickets will not be mailed; name(s) will be at the SDDP registration table. Call the Party office at (605) 271-5405 with any questions. Event sponsorship opportunities are also available.
