County grants drainage permit

Convinced that a Colton-area farmer made a good-faith effort to contact a downstream landowner, the Minnehaha County Commission last week unanimously approved an agricultural drainage permit for Roger Wolles southeast of Colton in Burk Township.
The water from three lateral lines of 4-inch tile in the township’s Section 26 will outlet into an unnamed seasonal waterway that is part of the Big Sioux River drainage. The Natural Resources Conservation Service says there are no identified wetlands within the area encompassed by Wolles’ drainage proposal.
Chief Civil Deputy State’s Attorney Kersten Kappmeyer said the requirements of the county’s drainage ordinance have been satisfied.
