A seaside boardwalk is coming to El Riad Shrine Mosque this Saturday, as Brandon Valley juniors and seniors celebrate a spring ritual: prom. Through this year’s theme, “Under the Sea,” the Sioux Falls venue will be transformed into “a fun, playful” theme that prom advisor Carolyn Ebright believes the students will enjoy.
The Mosque, which will be draped in hues of blues and greens and accented with colorful balloons and assorted props, will lead prom-goers through lighted, dock-like décor to the dance floor, which will showcase a water theme complete with a treasure chest, bubbles and more.
Once again, Naomi Poppe’s advanced food classes at Brandon Valley High will prepare a variety of hors d’ oeuvres for the juniors, seniors and their prom guests.
Also, as in past years, parents, family members and the curious public can take photos from 8 to 9 p.m. Because Brandon Valley does not stage a traditional grand march, the hour-long picture taking frenzy allows groups of friends, teams and clubs to have their photos taken together.
At 9 p.m., the public is asked to leave.
“It’s a wonderful display of all students who are part of the BV family,” said Ebright. “Then we let them dance the night away.”
