State Hershey’s Track & Field Games are June 21 in Spearfish

Approximately 400 9- to 14-year-old boys and girls from across South Dakota will compete Saturday, June 21 at the Lou Graslie Stadium in Belle Fourche during the State Hershey’s Track & Field Games.
Twenty-eight local agencies hosted HTFG meets across South Dakota and the top three finishers from each event at these local meets qualified for advancement to the State Meet. First place finishers at the State Meet are entered into a regional pool and may become eligible for selection to a Regional Team, which will travel to Hershey, Pa., to compete in the North American Final on Saturday, Aug. 2.
All qualifiers from the local meets are encouraged to attend the State Meet. Athletes may register between 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 20, at the Spearfish Rec and Aquatics Center, 122 Recreation Lane, Spearfish. On-site registration is 8-11 a.m., Saturday, June 21, at the Lou Graslie Stadium off National Street in Belle Fourche. All athletes must be registered prior to participating in any event.
Events will include the 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 4x100 meter relay, standing long jump, and softball throw. Field events begin at 9 a.m. and running events begin at 11:30 a.m.
Adult spectators are $3 and school-aged spectators are free to attend. Funds raised help offset costs of travel for South Dakota athletes to the North American Final.
The Hershey’s Track & Field Games has involved millions of youngsters from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada. It is sponsored by The Hershey Company and partnered with the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; Athletics Canada; and the National Recreation and Park Association.
The state sponsor of this program is the South Dakota Parks and Recreation Association. The local sponsor of this program is the City of Spearfish.
Hershey’s Track & Field Games is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship.
