Weinermobile stops in Brandon

Hundreds of local residents saw the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile July 9 when it spent the afternoon at Sunshine Foods in Brandon.
But anybody who missed the iconic vehicle last week can visit it on the new Weinermobile app for Apple and Android. Hot Dogger Breanna Robinson said the app answers the three most asked questions: Can I drive it? Can I park it in my driveway? And, Where is it?
At Sunshine, Hot Dogger Joey Greenstein demonstrated the app, which lets you race your own virtual Weinermobile on a virtual track. You can upgrade your virtual Weinermobile by scanning Oscar Mayer products in the stores.
The app also will let you insert the Weinermobile into any photo and will show you how close you are to the nearest one – there are six.
Zach Felderman, 15, said he found the real Weinermobile “fascinating,” and his brother, Luke, 6, said if he could drive it, he’d drive it to Sioux Falls.
Brandon resident Carol Nelson said she would drive it on the Autobahn in Germany, where her son is stationed.
“Autobun,” Greenstein said. “We’re all about puns here.”
Teagan Magnus, a fourth-grader, said she would drive the Weinermobile to her house “and eat all of it.”
Craig Bosch, owner/manager of Sunshine, said the Weinermobile people contacted him about a visit. “They contact their key accounts,” he said. The Weinermobile also made stops at Sunshine stores in Sioux Falls and Madison.
Sunshine served free Oscar Mayer hot dogs during the event.
“It’s always good to do something for the community,” Bosch said.
