Brandon Churches

September 20. 2014 1:55AM
Brandon Valley Ministerial Association
The Brandon Valley Ministerial Association includes pastors from Brandon and Valley Springs churches. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Brandon Steakhouse, 1308 E. Rushmore Drive, at 11:30 a.m.

The Ministerial administers an emergency community fund, which is supported by church, community and individual contributions. The fund is used for one-time emergency gas and food needs, mostly for travelers and occasionally for residents.

The Ministerial cooperates on community prayer events and on the annual Mayor’s Prayer Brunch in May. The group also hosts the high school baccalaureate service each year. Participating pastors provide chaplain services at Helping Hand Assisted Living in Brandon, Bethany Meadows senior living community in Brandon, and Palisade Manor nursing home in Garretson.

Pastors take turns writing a weekly column for the Brandon Valley Challenger.

The Rev. Merv Kramer of Brandon Valley Baptist Church is the president of the Brandon Valley Ministerial Association.

Meals on Wheels
Church volunteers deliver noon meals Monday through Friday to people 60 years and older, and homebound people, who sign up for Meals on Wheels through the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls. A dietician plans the meals to meet federal nutrition guidelines. Meals are low fat, low sugar and low sodium.

Diabetic meals are available, and the Center will substitute the protein portion of a meal to conform to dietary or religious needs. The full cost of a meal is $5.25, but people 60 and older pay by donation, with a suggested donation of $2.75.

Currently, four churches rotate each month in delivering the meals in Brandon. They are Risen Savior Catholic, Faith United Presbyterian, Brandon Valley Lutheran and Beaver Valley Lutheran of rural Valley Springs. The Center drops off the meals at the church and church volunteers deliver the meals to individuals.

To order Meals on Wheels, call 336-6748. To volunteer to deliver meals, call one of the participating churches.
