Brandon Valley won two of three duals at Thursday’s home quadrangular. The Lynx opened the night with a 45-31 Eastern South Dakota Conference win over the Brookings Bobcats, and then split in non-conference action against West Central and Sioux Falls Washington. Brandon Valley defeated the Trojans 48-27 and lost to the Warriors, 51-21.

“We didn’t wrestle well last night, but we were fortunate to come away with two wins, which will help our confidence a bit,” Duncanson said. “We need to get back in the room and fix some of the mistakes we made last night, and hopefully we can come out on fire and wrestle with more intensity.”

Senior Sam Seydel (189 pounds) was the lone Lynx to register three wins on the home mat Thursday, two which were won by forfeit. In the match he did wrestle, Seydel pinned Washington’s in 3:49.

A half-dozen Lynx wrestlers added two wins to their personal win-loss record, starting with senior Noah Halma (119). Halma opened the night with a disappointing loss to Brookings’ Ryan Palmer, who defeated Halma by a 9-3 decision. The senior then made quick work of his next two opponents. Against West Central’s Nathan Gacke, Halma used just 1:18 to shoulder Gacke, and he needed just 1:28 to pin Washington’s Jordan Glover.

Mason Bender (125) got the first win for the Lynx in their dual with Brookings. The freshman earned a 7-2 decision win over Nick Hansen, and scored a 9-3 decision win over West Central’s Cody Miller. Washington’s Blake Jans pinned Bender in 1:02.

Ryan Angerhofer opened the night by pinning Brookings’ Devon Crandall in 58 seconds. He got a win by forfeit from West Central and then tangled with Washington’s Nate Larson, who pinned the Lynx 130-pounder in 53 seconds.

Nate Monger (135) pinned Brookings’ Weston Resmen in 5:01 and got a win by forfeit from West Central. He battled through nearly three periods before Washington’s Sam Schultz shouldered him in 5:46.

Danny Larson’s (160) two victories of the night came in the form of a forfeit from Brookings and 15-8 decision win over Washington’s Cody Doorn. Larson’s only loss came at the hands of Tim Weber, who pinned the Lynx senior in 1:52.

Brandon Valley’s Mike Vigants also picked up a pair of wins at Thursday’s home quadrangular. The senior 215-pounder pinned his Brookings opponent, Zach Weier in 2:47, and handled Washington’s Nick Deutscher in 3:21. He was pinned by West Central’s Michael Kapperman in 3:54.

The Lynx travel to Watertown for an ESD Conference dual this Friday.

“Watertown is another solid ESD team, so we need to be ready to go when we step on the mat,” Duncanson said.
