BV wrestles way to Dakota Duals consolation title
Halma is lone Lynx to go 4-0 on the day

Coming off a sluggish night on the mats Jan. 28, the Brandon Valley Lynx used a day in the practice room to regroup so they could wrestle with confidence Saturday at the South Dakota Class A Duals in Brookings.
“We wrestled horribly on Thursday evening, then had a day of practice and the kids came out and wrestled a very nice tournament,” said Lynx head coach Jeff Duncanson. “I’m very happy with the kids’ effort and attitude. We needed to gain some confidence and we accomplished that this weekend.”
Brandon Valley opened the day against No. 4-seeded Rapid City Central, who took it to the Lynx in the 48-7 dual. Brandon Valley then went on to post three consecutive team victories. The Lynx won by criteria (most wins) against Spearfish, in a match that was knotted at 36-36, followed by a 45-30 victory over Sisseton and a 36-28 win over Sioux Falls Lincoln.
Confidence was evident in the matches senior Noah Halma wrestled on Saturday. The Lynx 119-pounder was the only Brandon Valley wrestler to win all four of his matches. Halma opened with a 4-2 decision over Central’s Blake Stone, and then made quick work of Spearfish’s Derek Hall. Halma shouldered the Spartan in 47 seconds. The Lynx senior got a bye against Sissetson and then needed 4:22 to pin Lincoln’s Blade Solo.
“Noah had a really nice tournament for us,” Duncanson said.
In their last two outings, the Lynx are 5-2 and are 8-8 to date.
“The kids are starting to believe that they can win,” Duncanson said. “We’re hitting our stride right now and with the ESD tournament and regions, this is the time we need to step up.”
On Friday, Brandon Valley travels to Watertown, and on Feb. 13 the Lynx host the ESD Conference tournament.
