If you love BBQ and have a knack for great taste, consider becoming a certified judge for the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Organizers of the South Dakota BBQ Championships will be holding a KCBS Certified BBQ Judging School on March 13 at the Beadle County Extension Office in Huron.
The cost for the class is $50 for KCBS members and $85 for non-members. Annual membership in KCBS is $35. All judging-school participants will be trained by KCBS representatives. Anyone interested in joining the KCBS can visit www.kcbs.us.
As certified BBQ judges, individuals need only renew their KCBS memberships to remain in good standing. Certified BBQ judges are in high demand wherever there is a sanctioned contest. There are over 300 contests nationwide, many of them in the Midwest. In South Dakota alone, judging opportunities are available at sanctioned contests in Huron, Vermillion and Aberdeen.
Registration forms are available at the Huron Chamber office, the State Fair office, or online at www.sdbbqchampionships.com.
