BV boys win state bowling title
Lynx girls take fourth

The 2009-10 high school bowling season wrapped up Friday in Brookings and the Lynx boys were crowned state champions.

The day started off with three qualifying games. The Lynx qualified second with a total score of 2,932. Josh Hillman rolled the high series, a 650, which earned him a place on the all-tournament team.

The Lynx boys then went through the double elimination bracket without losing a single match. They swept O'Gorman in the first round, then defeated Sioux Falls Lincoln in the second round2-1. This victory guaranteed the boys a top three finish.

In the semifinals the Lynx defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt 2-0 sending the Rough Riders to the loser’s bracket and establishing a spot for the Brandon Valley boys in the finals.

In the finals, the Lynx faced a familiar opponent, as Roosevelt battled their way through the loser’s bracket to go up against the Lynx in the finals.

The Lynx boys won the first game 184-139 and were one win away from the championship. 245-188 loss in the second game, which was only Brandon Valley’s second loss of the day.

The Lynx boys rallied in the third game to finish strong and earn Brandon Valley’s first boy’s state bowling championship.

The Lynx boys were led by seniors John Grothe, Nick Rock and Trase Anderson, sophomores Josh Hillman and Drew Peterson, and eighth grader Richard Blue V.

Lady Lynx
The young Lady Lynx started they day off by qualifying seventh with a score of 2,135.
The qualifiying highlight came from freshman Brookelyn Jellema, who rolled her first-ever 200 game to open the tournament.

The Lady Lynx were hampered by a first round loss to the host Brookings Bobcats.
The Lady Lynx then pulled together and then went on to win three straight consecutive matches against Harrisburg, Sioux Falls Lincoln and O'Gorman.

Brandon Valley’s season ended when Brookings met the girls again and ended their great run with a fourth place finish.

The girls team was led by sophomores Haley Rubin and Briana Grimmius, freshmen Brookelyn Jellema and Caitlin Hammond, junior Allison Kiner and eighth grader Mariah Clark.
