Brandon Valley converted 14 of 16 free throws en route to a 20-point road win (52-32) at Brookings Feb. 22. Heading into the District 2AA tournament, the victory evens Brandon Valley’s season mark at 10-10 (10-4 ESD).
“The girls played well and it was a good win for us to finish the regular season,” said Lynx head coach Mark Stadem said.
The visiting Lynx controlled the game from start to finish, posting a 20-6 advantage after a quarter of play and a 28-10 lead at the half. The Bobcat offense came to life in the third, producing 22 points, but the Lynx lead was too much for Brookings to overcome. After three quarters, Brandon Valley led 40-32. The Lynx held the Bobcats scoreless in the fourth quarter, while putting up a dozen points for the 52-32 win.
In the win, sophomore Heidi Hoff paced the Lynx with 20 points. Jessi Peterson added nine and Laura Hieb scored eight.
The Lynx shot 38 percent from the field, 16-42, and were on fire at the line, netting 14 of 16 (88 percent).
The Bobcats connected on just 10 of 34 tries (29 percent) from the floor and made 7-12 free throws (58 percent).
The Lynx were out-rebounded 26-23. Hoff had 10 rebounds and five of the team’s 10 steals. Madison Rozell picked off three.
Brandon Valley turned the ball over a dozen times to Brookings’ 18.
“The girls really had a solid conference season finishing 10-4 and tied for second in the league,” Stadem said. “We need to work hard in practice the next few days to make sure we are ready for districts.”
