Tobin fires a 72 to win Lynx Invite

Brandon Valley’s Trevor Tobin fired a 72 to win the Lynx Invitational by one shot over Aberdeen Central’s Tyler Zahn last Monday. Brookings’ Chris Holmquist and Watertown’s Nick Gottsleben also posted 73s at the Brandon Municipal Golf Course.
Tobin carded a 37 on the front nine and shaved two strokes off his back nine score for the 72 total. Tyson Thorson, who finished 14th in the pack of 42 golfers, opened with a 41 and followed up with a 38. Teammate Michael Whitney also carded a 79, firing a 40 and a 39, respectively, for 15th place. Tyler Anderson finished with an 80, shooting a 39 and a 41 for 17th place. Rounding out the scores for the Lynx was Tanner Wehrkamp, who shot a 44 and a 49 for a 93 and 37th place.
As a team, the Lynx lost by four shots to Aberdeen Central, who won the seven-team tourney with a 301. Brandon Valley came in at 305 and Watertown was third at 311.
The Lynx Invite is the team’s only home meet of the season. Brandon Valley competes Friday at the Huron Invite. Next week, the Lynx face three Sioux Falls teams on two separate days. On Monday, Brandon Valley plays at Roosevelt, and Tuesday they face Lincoln and O’Gorman at Elmwood. Both matches start at 4 p.m.
