Brandon Valley swept the Brookings Quadrangular Saturday, coming home with three team victories. The Lynx netters defeated Pipestone (Minn.) Area 7-2, blanked Sturgis 9-0, and handed Brookings a 6-3 loss.

“We had a great weekend,” said Coach Jesse Gladis. “We started off the season well, but we were very nervous.”

The Lady Lynx did their damage without the help of its No. 5 singles/No. 2 doubles player, Haley Rubin. “We missed her, but Jenna Baltzer stepped in and played some great tennis,” Gladis said.

Baltzer won two of her three singles matches and paired up with Erin Buse to claim victory in two doubles matches.

No. 1 singles and doubles player, Jami Koens, had a great day on the court. Koens won all three of her matches in both divisions, as well as did teammate Haylee Thomas (No. 6 singles/No. 3 doubles.”

“We had some great play from our No. 1 and No. 2 singles teams and Haylee Thomas stepped up in her first varsity competition like a veteran,” Gladis said. “We're looking forward to a great year. Looking at how the Sioux Falls Invite went this weekend, there will be great tennis throughout the state.”

The Lady Lynx travel Rapid City this weekend for a match against Rapic City Central at noon on Friday, followed by play in the Rapid City Invite Friday afternoon and Saturday. Next Tuesday, the team plays at Sioux Falls O’Gorman beginning at 4 p.m.
