Sunday was Karly’s party
August 31. 2010 11:37AM
My family and I celebrated a special day with the newest member of the Meier clan, Karly Kay, this past Sunday.
It was the day she was baptized, and I had the honor of serving as one of her two sponsors.
Until Sunday, I hadn’t met Karly. But of course, she’s cute as a button, and tiny as one, too. I forget how little newborns can be, and just how nervous a little bundle of joy can make me.
But that didn’t stop me from taking her in my arms, at least until she started to fuss. I’m sure she sensed that she wasn’t in the comfort of her mother’s arms.
Karly was a perfect baby through church and at the baptismal fountain. In fact, she slept right through it all – in her mother’s arms, of course.
I’m sure Karly had no idea that she was the reason behind the family celebration on Sunday. But someday, as she grows older and looks back at the trinkets and gifts given to her that day, she’ll know just how much she is loved by us all.
Earlier Sunday morning, as we gathered in the pastor’s study for some pre-service directions and prayer, Karly’s 3-year-old sister, Makena, summed it up better than any of us could.
As we said “amen” in unison, Makena proudly announced, “It’s Karly’s party!”
With a smile spreading across her face, the minister confirmed Makena’s announcement, “Indeed, today is Karly’s party.”
An interesting tidbit
Did you know that August 2010 had five Sundays, five Mondays and five Tuesdays?
While it may seem trivial, this only happened once in 823 years.
