August 31. 2010 3:24PM
Brandon Valley’s High School girls 2010 soccer season kicked off during some very warm Black Hills temperatures Aug. 20, when the Lady Lynx visited a feisty Rapid City Central team.
The season opener was a back and forth battle with play being slightly more controlled by the Lady Lynx in the first half and by the Cobblers in the second half. The 0-0 tie was broken in the 83rd minute of play with a well-executed attack down the right sideline. Senior Kari Pierson was credited with an assist as she passed ahead to sophomore Amy Steffen, who chipped over the Central goalie to score.
Unfortunately, the Cobblers answered with less than a minute remaining in the contest by scoring on the rebound of a blocked shot in front of the net.
The Cobblers out-shot the Lynx 11-4 and goalkeeper Ashley Limmer was credited with six saves.
BV 0, R.C. Stevens
The next afternoon found the Lady Lynx facing a very quick and talentedRapid City Stevens squad. With extreme heat of over 100 degrees at game time, new head varsity coach Daniel O’Hayon went with a very defensive approach to the game.
Despite being outshot 24-1 on goal, the Lady Lynx were only defeated by a score of 3-0. Goalkeeper Ashley Limmer was kept very busy, snaring 15 saves.
Coach O’Hayon said that it "takes time for chemistry to develop" with a new team, but overall was pleased with the team’s effort over the weekend. He is also confident that "as we play more games, we will play better."

Goalkeeper Kara Shroll was credited three saves in the 2-2 tie.
The JV girls did not fare as well the following day, experiencing a 6-0 setback at the hands of Rapid City Stevens.
BV at Pierre

The junior varstiy team was defeated 3-1 with Ellie Williams scoring their lone goal.
The varsity girls fared better, leaving Pierre with a 1-1 tie. Holly Suss scored first on a breakaway in the middle of the second half but Pierre was able to answer with their own goal several minutes later. The defense remained strong the rest of game to preserve the tie.
