Inexperienced Lynx bow to Watertown

The Watertown Arrows capitalized on Brandon Valley’s inexperience Aug. 31, by winning the Eastern South Dakota Conference match in three straight games. The Arrows defeated the Lynx 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21.
“We have a young team full of sophomores and girls who have not played at the varsity level, so it is going to be a learning year,” Lynx head coach Lindsey Smith said. “Hopefully we can make the adjustments and continue to improve before districts.”
But that’s a ways off, and Smith said the team has already shown improvement from their season opener at Sioux Falls Washington just a few days earlier.
“I thought Tuesday's match was better than Friday’s,” Smith said. “We are showing improvement each game, which is a good thing. We are trying new things and switching some things around in our line-ups to see what will work best for our team.”
Lynx seniors Andrea Hanson and Jessi Peterson led the team. Hanson had five kills and Peterson had 25 digs.
For Watertown, Tia Hemiller registered eight kills and 17 digs. Brittany Anderson had three blocks and Emily Pengilly offered 24 set assists.
Brandon Valley continues their ESD Conference schedule with a road game at Yankton Thursday, and will host Aberdeen Central at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday. On Tuesday, Sept. 14, the Mitchell Kernels pay a visit to the Lynx court.
