Students at Brandon Valley Schools are now “100 days brighter” – and a bit more stylish, too.
The 100th day of the current school year was Jan. 24, so students in kindergarten and first and second grades at Valley Springs Elementary, celebrated the milestone in “high fashion.”
For the fifth consecutive year – and with energized music playng in the background – youngsters strutted, danced, skipped, hopped and walked the runway of the “100 Days of School Fashion Show.” Each student had the opportunity to decorate a shirt with 100 of “something” on it. Some kids donned shirts with 100 stickers or 100 buttons. Landon Krohn’s shirt featured 100 roles of Smarties candies and Principal Kristi Nelson attached 100 leaves to her shirt.
“It’s a little itchy,” she confided.
VSE kindergarten teacher Amber Ernste said the costumes seem to get more elaborate each year.
The fashion show marking the 100th day of school wasn’t only fun, but educational too.
Ernste said her students are currently learning how to count to 100. “So this ties into our curriculum,” she said.
Each of the kindergarten “models” also wore necklaces with 100 Fruit Loops strung on them. The necklace proved to be too much temptation for one little guy, as he tapped his teacher’s aide, Ardell Johnson, on the arm, and asked, “Can we eat our necklaces now?”
To his disappointment, Mrs. Johnson told him it just wasn’t time yet .
“They’re learning to wait, too,” Ernste concluded.
