Lonny R. Bucher, 64
Lonny R. Bucher, 64, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

A memorial service was held Nov. 21 at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Brian (Keilanie) of Sheldon, Iowa, and Lonnie Jr. (Andrea) of Hartford; nine grandchildren; three sisters; and a host of other relatives.

Alaina Maire Epling, infant
Funeral services for Alaina Marie Epling, of Brandon, were held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at Brandon Lutheran Church, Brandon.

Alaina Marie died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at Amplatz Childrenís Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

She is survived by her parents, Dari and Beth Epling, Brandon; grandparents, Paul and Jane Phalen, Sioux Falls, and Dennis and Anita Epling, Canton; aunts, Katie Phalen, Darcie and Ashley Epling.

Kirra Flanagan, infant
Kirra Flanagan, infant daughter of Dany Flanagan, died shortly after birth on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. She was born shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

In addition to her mother, Dany, she is survived by her older brother, Emery Flanagan, her twin brother, Kolton Flanagan; and her grandparents, Kathy Flanagan of Sioux Falls and David Flanagan of Brandon.

Deb Harris, 57
Deb Harris, 57, of Sioux Falls passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Avera Medical Center in Sioux Falls, surrounded by her family and friends. She died of complications arising from a short-term illness.

Debra was born Jan. 31, 1955 in Sioux Falls to Robert and Bernadine (Shaffer) Hoel. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls growing up on the Eastside of the city. She attended Lincoln High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Mark Rensch, in 1973. They had two children, son Mark and daughter Amanda. In 1991, Deb married John Harris.

Throughout her life, Deb worked for Target, Don Tyler Insurance, Rural Community Insurance Services, which is a division of Wells Fargo, and most recently the South Dakota Department of Transportation. Deb was known for her love of and talent with plants and flowers. For many years she maintained part-time business as "The Plant Doctor" caring for the plants in commercial businesses and rescuing plants special to individual clients. She would nurse them back to health before returning them to their owners and instruct those owners in the proper care to keep their plants health. One of her greatest joys was spending time in her garden. She also had a great love of music, entertaining friends and riding with John on his motorcycle.

Grateful to have shared Deb's life with her are parents, Bob and Bernie, Sioux Falls; her husband, John; her son, Mark Rensch, and his son, Michael Weber, of Sioux Falls; her daughter, Amanda Rensch, of New York City and their father Mark, Sioux Falls; John's children, Jackie (Harris) Husman (Brad), Sioux Falls, with grandchildren Zachary and Zoie, Jason Harris, Yankton and his three sons; her three sisters and their families, Jackie Jibben (Daryl), Jasper, Minn., Pam Rolfson (Roger), Hartford, and Julie Flanders (Roy) Brandon; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews - all who knew her as "Auntie Deb"; uncles, Ron (Pam) Shaffer, Flandreau, Don Shaffer, Sioux Falls, aunt, Lynette (Bob) Brewster, of Omaha, Neb.; and her very special lifelong friends, Janine (Michael) Harris and Gary Wallenberg.

A memorial service and celebration of Deb's life was held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at Miller West. Interment will be a family event at a later date.
Myrna Kauer, 73
Myrna Kauer, 73, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Sioux Falls with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Dell Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Doug (Linda) Smith, Sioux Falls, Darwin (Toni) Smith, Beaufort, S.C., and Cheryl (Tony) Butzer, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sally Bohnenkamp, Brandon, and Judy Turnis, Sioux Falls.

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Teresa; husband, Robert Kauer; and granddaughter, Carrie Kauer.

Lilas Larson, 73
Lilas J. Larson, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at her home in Brandon.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov.27, at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon.

Lilas Jean was born Dec. 28, 1938 in Pepperton Township, Minn., to Orville and Minnie (Sommerlade) Huebner. She received her education in Minnesota. Lilas was married Feb. 28, 1964, in Sioux Falls to Bruce A. Larson. The couple made their home in Denver, Colo., and was blessed with two daughters.

The couple moved to Brandon in 2003. Bruce died Feb. 6, 2010. Lilas spent her career working as a certified nurseís assistant, a job she loved, and was currently working at Bethany Meadows in Brandon.

Lilas loved working and helping anyone that she could. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Laurie (Vern) Kaler and Shelly (Dale) Trigg, all of Brandon; two grandchildren, Vanessa and Ryan Kaler of Brandon; and three siblings, Linda (Dennis) Carson, Jerry Huebner and Sylvia (Ron) Willey all of Pipestone, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Minnie Huebner; and husband, Bruce A. Larson.

James Sheffield, 58
James Sheffield, age 58, of Huron died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. His memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the United Parish of Alpena.

James Dean Sheffield was born July 16, 1954, in Huron to Clayton and Eileen (Schorzman) Sheffield. He was raised on the family farm outside of Alpena. Jim graduated from Alpena High School in 1972. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a bachelorís degree in political science/criminal justice.

Jim lived and worked in Vermillion from 1976 to 1991 as the first assistant chief of campus police for most of the time, and as chief for the last three or four years. During that time he was heavily involved in horse-trading and training.

Jim married Kathy Ford and the couple had two boys, Jake and Sam.

He left the University in 1991 to work as the security manager for Casino Omaha until 1994. In 1995, Jim moved to Highlands Ranch, Colo. He worked for US West, later Quest, as an investigator and later the director of the EEO Group. While still working in Colorado, Jim started buying rental property in Huron.

In 1996, Jim married Mar Sternburg in Castle Rock, Colo. The couple moved to Brandon, and he continued working for Quest. After retiring from Quest 2008, Jim and Mar moved to Huron, where they opened Marís Bar and Liquor Store.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mar of Huron; two sons, Jake (Liz) Sheffield of Sioux Falls and Sam Sheffield of Vermillion; a sister, Marjean (Dallas) Moe of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Wayne Sheffield in 2002.
