The Lynx boys contained Huron to six second-half points en route to a 62-29 victory in the opening round of the Class AA State Boys' Basketball Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Sioux Falls Arena.
The victory sets the stage for a semifinal match-up against top-seed Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 6 tonight. The 26-1Rough Riders defeated the Lynx 82-55 on Dec. 21. But the Lynx are riding an eight-game win streak, including Thursday's near flawless performance before a large Brandon Valley crowd.
Roosevelt sidelined Rapid City Stevens 73-43 in the noon game.
In Thursday's victory, the Tigers limited top-scorer Chase Marso to nine points, but juniors Nic Peterson and Jacob Adams filled in the gap with 20 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Adam Bauer tossed in nine points.
The Lynx had the edge on the glass, 26-20, committed just six turnovers to Huron's 19, and picked off a dozen steals; Huron had two.
The Pierre Governors handled Rapid City Central 60-47 and Sioux Falls Lincoln edged Brookings 53-48 to also advance to tonight's semifinal round. That game follows at 7:45 p.m.
