Power outages disrupting 911 service

Cable TV, Internet and phone services including 911 from Alliance Communications are being impacted by power outages from the winter storm.
During electrical outages, the battery backups at each home and business will continue to power landline phone service for a several hours. The battery backups will not support cable TV and Internet services.
Some areas already have been without electricity for a prolonged period, and those battery backups are beginning to run out of power. As a result, landline 911 service is being disrupted in some areas.
As of 12:30 p.m. today, about 3,300 Alliance customers are without 911 service over landline. This number will continue to increase if electrical service isn’t restored.
Customers needing emergency assistance should call 911 with a cell phone or go to the nearest fire station, hospital, ambulance station or law enforcement post. Officials have requested that people only call 911 for true emergencies, such as medical, fire, or crimes in progress.
Once electrical service resumes, phone, internet and cable services should return automatically. If they don’t, customers should unplug their set-top boxes, DVRs, and routers. After following those steps, customers should call our office at 605-594-3411 or 1-800-701-4980 for further assistance.
