The use of a shot clock in South Dakota high school basketball will become more widespread starting in 2014-15.
The state activities board voted April 16 to use a 35-second shot clock for boys and girls basketball in Class A, which joins the Class AA ranks in hopes of speeding up play and standardizing state rules. However, a similar measure for Class B was not approved.
Athletic directors in Class A had earlier voted 26-21 in favor of adopting the shot clock, which has been part of Class AA basketball in South Dakota since 2008-09.
In Class B, athletic directors voted 49-13 against the proposal, and the state activities board took that into account.
