Coach Todd Geerdes and the Lady Lynx golf team met a short-term goal in Monday’s home quadrangular at the Brandon Municipal Golf Course.
Setting a goal of 380 as a team score, the Lady Lynx met the challenge and surpassed by it by two strokes, carding a 378 for a third place finish.
Sioux Falls Lincoln and Washington took first and second with their respective scores of 374 and 377. Brookings was fourth at 408.
Geerdes was pleased with the team’s performance in their second match of the season on their home course.
“I was very proud of the girls' performance today. It was a cold, windy day and (they) battled through the conditions and ended up finishing four strokes from first,” Geerdes said.
Even better for the program was placing two Lady Lynx golfers in the top five, Alana Christianson and Hannah Johnson, who carded rounds of 92 and 93, respectively.
“I really am exited about Alana’s and Hannah’s performance today because they shot the best rounds of high school careers,” Geerdes said. “There were several places that they could have saved strokes and broke into the 80’s, which we’re extremely excited about where they could be and we could be by the state tournament in Yankton on May 21-22.”
Kaila Kuehn and Macy Clark also posted scores in the 90s. Kuehn shot a 94 and Clark finished the 18-hole round with a 99. Lauren Blue (132), Elise Oren (127) and Jamie Johnson (123) round out the Lynx scoring.
Although pleased with Monday’s effort, Geerdes said there’s still room for improvement.
“We have accomplished a short-term goal of having four players shoot under a score of 100, but our next goal is to have four scores of 90 or better,” he said.
Washington’s Ashley Eggebraaten and Lincoln’s Mae Meierhenry shared medalist honors, as both carded an 82.
Brandon Valley competes next at the Yankton Invite on Friday, with play starting at 10 a.m.
