Spring flowers came to life in Cottonwood Court at Bethany Home – Brandon last week.

It was the first of many resident art classes to be held on the Bethany campus, with four residents taking part. The class was taught by a former Bethany staff member, 2008 Brandon Valley High School grad, Megan Mudder. The South Dakota State University nursing grad turned art teacher at Creative Spirits in Sioux Falls, volunteered to lead a painting class.

Each of the four Bethany “Picassos” was supplied with a blank canvas, easel, paints and brushes, and Mudder led them step by step until the final flower petal was painted.
The art classes are the result of a $500 grant awarded to the Bethany Meadows/Bethany Home entity from the South Dakota Arts Council. The grant money was used to purchase supplies such as paint, canvasses and easels to start an art class for residents.

The paintings will eventually go up on art exhibit wall in the link between Bethany Home and Bethany Meadows.

Trevor Guthmiller, director of development, said there is a tentative schedule of exhibits, which will include residents’ art as well as work by staff and the community.
Each exhibit will be on display about a month.
