Parting words for the BVHS Class of 2013

What can I say that hasn’t been written about Brandon Valley’s 2013 senior class so far this school year? Whether it be on the playing field, on the Performing Center Arts stage or in the classroom, this group of seniors has certainly left their mark on Brandon Valley.
It began with the fall sports season, where a talented boy’s golf team and domineering football team got the excitement rolling for the year. It continued through the winter wrestling and basketball seasons and now this spring, the baseball and track programs are excelling.
I have to say, I’m exhausted keeping up with all that success. But it’s a good tired.
I believe it was three years ago when the Brandon Valley Booster Club decided to breathe new life into its Hall of Fame program. While it’s been an honor to learn and write about some of Brandon Valley’s finest athletes of the past, I don’t have a personal connection with most of the inductees. They were before my time, but nonetheless, are well deserved of the honor.
But I have to say, I look forward to a decade from now when names such as the likes of athletes such as Matt VandeBerg, Chase Marso, Allison Koehn, Trevor Tobin and Mason Bender begin surfacing nominations for those honors.
This class of seniors has also made its mark in the arts. I’ll miss the talents of seniors like Ashlynn Boerhave and Alex Rogen on stage or the savvy trombone playing of Brendan Gallo, a musician who continually rises to the top in competitions. And there are many more outstanding athletes, musicians, artists, actors, dancers and more that deserve mention. There are simply too many to list.
In closing, to the BVHS Class of 2013, I offer you a few snippets of advice:
First, know that your parents are smarter than you think they are.
Secondly, make wise decisions.
Thirdly, be kind and kindness will come back to you.
And lastly, as good as it may sound late at night when all that’s in your refrigerator is a few hotdogs, a hunk of cheese and a couple of eggs, combined they certainly aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
Congratulations, Brandon Valley Class of 2013 – once again, it’s been a sweet ride.
A bit of ‘For better or for worse’ humor
A wife, being the romantic sort, sent her husband the following text: “If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you!”
The husband, typically the non-romantic, replied: “I am on the commode. Please advise.”
