Lynx slaughter Arows in home dual

Brandon Valley boy’s tennis team took it to Pipestone (Minn.) Area Tuesday in Brandon, as the Lynx scored victory in all nine matches of the non-conference dual. The victory improves the team to 7-4 on the year.
“I thought we played well against Pipestone,” said Lynx head coach Mark Schlekeway. “They were an inexperienced team and we took advantage of that.”
The Lynx seemed to have control of nearly every match. Austin Sadler (No. 4 singles) and the No. 3 doubles team of underclassmen Nathan Mutschelknaus and Mason Blue faced the biggest challenge in their matches. Sadler defeated Trace Lueck 6-3 in the opening set, but had to battle to claim the 7-5 second set win.
Mutschelknaus and Blue dropped the first set, 4-6, to Pipestone’s Joe Morgan and Bill Smith. In the second set, the Lynx dual rallied to a 6-1 win and finished off the match victory, 106.
While pleased with Tuesday’s effort, Schlekeway said there’s still room for improvement.
“I still think that there are things that we need to improve on and hopefully we can do that as we move towards ESD and state,” Schlekeway said. “Today (May 1) will be a great challenge for us as we take on O’Gorman. We will get a good feel on how much we have improved today.”
