Lady Lynx senior Miranda Cain rallied Brandon Valley to an 8-5 victory in the nightcap of Monday’s doubleheader at Pipestone, Minn.
Cain, who belted out back-to-back out-of-the-park home runs, brought in five of the team’s eight runs scored.
The Lynx also got offensive help from Katie Erickson and Jaysa Widmann. Erickson went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Widmann turned in a 3-for-4 effort with a double in the first inning to score Brandon Valley’s initial two runs.
Brooke Becker and Haley Andrews shared the pitching duties. Lynx head coach Suzanne Carroll said Andrews had to battle through some tough mental plays at the end of the game.
“Pipestone is known for their chatter from the dugout, which can sometimes rattle our girls on the field but Haley played and pitched strong to the end,” Carroll said.
BV 1, Pipestone 2
Brandon Valley allowed one unearned run in the first game, as the Arrows squeaked out a 2-1 win.
Kara Anderson was on the mound for the Lady Lynx. “Kara pitched a great game,” said Carroll. “She has a lot of movement on her ball that helped keep Pipestone’s offense in check, and our girls played the hits well when Pipestone did hit.”
The Lady Lynx offense was fueled by sophomore Katie Erickson, who went 2-for-3 at bat.
“(It was) two great games by two good teams,” Carroll said.
