Tree drop-off being abused
By Staff reports

May 17. 2013 6:00AM
The branch pile at McHardy Park is being abused, city officials say.

Rollie Hoeke, Brandon’s director of public works, said city staff has found more than branches and tree stumps being left at the drop site. Leaves and garbage should not be discarded there, he said.

Sticks leftover from the recent branch cleanup also should not be raked or swept into the streets, city administrators say. The city street sweeper can not pick them up, and the debris could cause future problems to the city’s storm sewer system.

“If there’s a lot of grass in there, it become a compost site, which is a whole different set of guidelines” said Bryan Read, city administrator.
