Lady Lynx JV end season at 7-6
After dropping their first four games of the season, the Lady Lynx rebounded to post a 7-6 record, which include a pair of shutouts against Watertown on May 13 at Koch Complex in Watertown.
In the opener, Brandon Valley defeated the host Arrows 9-0. On the bump for the Lady Lynx was Mikael Smith with Sydnie Buchheim catching.
At the plate, Buchheim went 3-for-3, which included a homerun.
The Brandon Valley bats were kept busy in their 10-0 win. Staffing the mound were Savannah Garrow and Carissa Helgeson. Behind the plate were Buchheim and Mollie Drexler.
“The Lynx have improved tremendously since the beginning of the season and have gelled into a great team,” said coach Roxie Geerdes. “We started out slow this year with four losses but ended strong with a winning record of 7-6.”
Local athletes on NSIC spring all-academic teams
A variety of local athletes attending the University of Sioux Falls have been named to respective Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference all-academic teams for the 2013 spring athletic season. To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
Brandon student-athletes named to their respective teams are: Baseball – Derek Fischer, junior; Men’s Outdoor Track & Field – Bobby Brockmueller and Billy Brockmueller, sophomores, and Blaze Kilian, junior; Women’s Outdoor Track & Field – Kelli Hoff, junior.
