Post 131 goes 2-3 at Renner Post 307 Invite
By Staff reports

June 19. 2013 3:28PM
DiGiorgio’s Sportswear of Omaha, Neb., went 4-0 to win the first Renner Post 307 Invitational. Valley Springs Post 131 suffered an 8-4 loss to the Nebraska team in their second of five games played over three days, posting a 2-3 mark in the tournament.
Valley Springs’ two wins came in their tournament opener, an 8-3 win over Norfolk, Neb., and they topped Elkhorn South, Neb., 7-2.

Head coach Grant Hieb said his team faced tougher competition than they’ve seen in the spring club team season and so far in their Legion schedule.

“It’s good to see where we’re at,” Hieb said. This schedule is a lot harder than what we’ve had in the past, and we’re playing better teams, which hopefully helps us down the road.”

Hieb said the team’s 2-3 finish over the weekend was due to defensive errors.
“We’re starting to hit better but we need to clean up our mistakes,” he said. “If you make an error or two, especially in situations where bases are loaded, it’s tough.”

Post 131 meets a familiar opponent at 2 p.m. Wednesday – Millard West High School – for their first game of Deckers Tournament in Omaha. Valley Springs (9-10) will play Ricemen (Jonesboro, Ark.) at noon on Thursday and the OK Amabassadors (Oklahoma City) at 2:30. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Post 131 faces Ponderosa High School (Denver, Colo.) and wrap up the tournament Saturday with a noon game against Royals (Grand Forks, N.D.).

On June 25, Post 131 travels to Cadwell Park in Mitchell for a 5 p.m. game against Aberdeen and a 7 p.m. game with Mitchell.
