Valley Springs falls to Watertown in doubleheader

Valley Springs Post 131 American Legion took a double hit in the loss column last week, as Watertown defeated their guests 4-2 and 4-0. The pair of losses evens the team’s season record at 6-6.

A tight game was decided in the sixth inning as Valley Springs Post 131 fell to Watertown 4-2 in seven innings in American Legion baseball action Tuesday at Watertown.

Tommy Gardner boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate to pace Valley Springs. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth.
Valley Springs also got help from Cole VanderBeek, who had a single, double and an RBI.

Watertown was sparked by Kolton Michelsky and Stacey, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.

The top of the third saw Post 131 take an early 1-0 lead. Gardner started the rally for Valley Springs with a double. A single by Adam Guthmiller then moved Gardner from second to third.

Watertown answered Post 131’s top inning with one run of its own in the third. Watertown scored on an RBI double by Moes.

The game was never in doubt after the sixth, as Watertown scored three runs on an RBI double by Ries and a two-run triple by Stacey.

Tommy Gardner did all he could to give Valley Springs a boost in the nightcap, but it wasn’t enough to get past Watertown, as Post 131 lost 4-0 in seven innings.

Post 131 was led by Gardner’s hitting. He went 1-for-3, singling in the second inning.
Sitter got the win for Watertown. He tossed seven innings of shutout ball. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered two hits.

The game was never in doubt after the third, as Watertown scored one run on an RBI single by Eric Gauer.

Watertown posted one run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth. In the fourth, Watertown scored on an RBI double by Kolton Michelsky, bringing home Jutting.
