New activities added to Booster Days
Scavenger hunt, photo contest, quilt show among offerings

Booster Days is a time-honored tradition in Valley Springs, but planners are adding new life to the summer event.
“Last year, we added the car show and the 5K run, and everyone seemed to enjoy it,” said Tami Jansma, one of the coordinators.
Those two activities will be back this year, along with the traditional picnic in the park, fireworks, mud volleyball, kids tractor pull, firefighters water fight and community worship service. New this year will be a scavenger hunt, photo contest and quilt show.
The scavenger hunt is open to anyone but might appeal most to teens, Jansma said.
“We’ll see how it works out,” she said. “I did a scavenger hunt (as a youth). I wanted to bring that back. I thought that was pretty cool when I was 13.”
Jansma will post photos in the windows of City Hall of lawn ornaments found around town. Contestants must find the ornaments and photograph them. If they don’t have a camera or a phone with a camera, they can write down the address. The winner will get a $25 gift card.
The winner of the photography contest also will get a $25 gift card. Jansma said she’s received a couple entries already and hopes to get many more this week. The photo can be of anything, as long as it is taken in Valley Springs. A panel of judges will choose a winner. Look for the photo entries on the Booster Days Facebook page.
Also this year will be a quilt show at the Valley Springs Reformed Church. Set up will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, and anyone who wants to show a quilt can bring it there at that time.
Jansma said she, Cindy Moss and other planners are always on the lookout for new ideas.
“I think every year, I want to add in two more events,” Jansma said.
