Valley Springs Post 131 took home a 10-4 victory over SF Post 15 West on Monday at Harmodon Park Field, fueled by five runs in the seventh inning.
Lucas Lunstra helped Valley Springs take the lead for good in the seventh inning. Jacob Adams singled next to get on base and then went from first to second on a single by Jared Mulder.
Lunstra racked up two RBIs on two hits for Post 131.
Mulder was hot from the plate. He went 2-for-4, drove in one and scored three runs. He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the seventh inning.
For the first time in the spring club and summer Legion baseball seasons, Valley Springs overcame the pitching of Conner Grove.
“We finally got to Grove, the pitcher for West,” said head coach Grant Hieb. “They’ve thrown him every time this spring with Roosevelt and this summer.”
Luke Bauske got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He tossed three innings of shutout ball. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered four hits.
Valley Springs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Dylan Tibke singled to ignite the Post 131 offense. An error then moved Tibke from first to second. Adams followed with a single to score Tibke.
After a quick strike from Valley Springs, SF Post 15 West responded with three runs in the fifth. Sioux Falls scored on an RBI single by Justin Kautz, an RBI single by Seth Bjordal, and an RBI single by Alex Linneman.
Valley Springs added one more run in the top of the eighth when Mulder stole home.
