Helpline Center seeks birdhouse volunteers
July 15. 2013 7:55AM
Over 100 volunteers are needed to make and decorate birdhouses in August, benefiting local seniors and people with disabilities.
The Birdhouse Building Party will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday Aug. 10. The wooden birdhouses will be made from wood and are easy to build. In addition, very young volunteers not able to use a hammer can make colorful can and ribbon bird feeders. The birdhouses will be given to people who lost trees in the April ice storm when the Helpline Center leads the tree planting effort Tree The Town on Oct. 26.
Volunteers who are talented with woodworking are also needed to help lead the birdhouse build.
The Birdhouse Building Party is part of the Helpline Center’s Volunteer Sioux Falls initiative. In the past, Volunteer Sioux Falls has been a single community-wide day of giving, taking place once a year. Starting this August, Volunteer Sioux Falls will grow from a single day of service to three community-wide service events annually. The Helpline Center will lead these events, encouraging individuals, families, churches, civic groups and companies to get involved in a community-wide project each February, April and August.
All birdhouse volunteers will receive a Volunteer Sioux Falls t-shirt and a goodie bag filled with volunteer information.
