Gerald Grohs, 57
Memorial services for Gerald Grohs, 57, of rural Hurley, were held Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Calvary Assembly of God Church, Sioux Falls.
Mr. Grohs died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at his rural Hurley home.
He was born at Egan, S.D., in 1956. He worked in construction, first for RES Construction and then for the BNSF Railroad. In 1980 he married Anne Reynolds. The couple lived in Sioux Falls, Valley Springs, Brandon and Worthing before moving to their home near Hurley.
He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; daughters, Lindsey Grohs, Hurley, and Brianna (Chantz) Pederson, Guthrie, Okla.; grandson, Alec Grohs; siblings, Juliet Grohs, Russell, Minn., Donna Otto, Egan, Mickie (Darrel) Hoiland, Brandon.

Don Kuchel, 75
Donald D. Kuchel, 75, of Ocala, Fla., died Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Don was born April 26, 1938, in Kingsley, Iowa, to Philip and Maxine (Steffe) Kuchel. He was united in marriage to Twila Rypkema on Sept. 30, 1995, in Arnolds Park, Iowa.
Don graduated from Kingsley High School, Wayne State University and earned masters degrees from the University of South Dakota in industrial education and counseling. He worked in education until he retired in 2000, and continued to work in construction until his passing. Don enjoyed spending his spare time golfing, playing cards and boating at the lakes.
Don is survived by his wife, Twila Kuchel of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Tami (Dwaine) Hanson, of Lakefield, Minn.; son, Bob Kuchel of Omaha, Neb.; step-son, Rolf Woelber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sister, LuAnn Ruba; five brothers, Terry (Deborah) Kuchel, Ken (Doneen) Kuchel, Mark (Barb) Kuchel, Blaine (LuAnne) Kuchel, and Kevin (Sherri) Kuchel; five grandchildren, Jamie, Aaron, Austin, Connor and Kaylen; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Peyton, Cayden and Kellan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deb; and step-son, Joseph.
A Celebration of Don's Life was held Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Donís name.
James Olesen, 60
Funeral services for James Edward Olesen, 60, of Parker, were held Friday, July 26, 2013 at Spring Valley Lutheran Chuch, rural Viborg. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Olesen died Monday, July 22, 2013 of an apparent heart attack at his home near Parker.
James Edward Olesen was born Oct. 6, 1952 at Sioux Falls to Berl and Edith (Deelstra) Olesen. He lived at Hurley and Chamberlain, S.D., before moving to a farm near Parker, which was at one time a Deelstra farmstead. On May 15, 1970 he married Pam Kenobbie at Chamberlain and to this union was born two daughters, Misty and Tangee. He worked for many years as a livestock buyer with the stockyards and for the past several years worked in the housing industry. He was presently employed with Western Housing.
His greatest enjoyment was being out at his farm raising sheep, horses, other livestock, gardening, picking treasures, and always lending a helping hand on projects.
He is survived by two daughters, Misty (Rick) Kuhnert, Brandon, and Tangee (Brent) Kokenge, Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke; three sisters and a brother, Linda (Wes) Priebe, Chamberlain, Rose (Allan) Wasserman, Sioux Falls, Leanne (Jim) DuVall, Chamberlain, and Kevin (Leslie) Olesen, Chamberlain; special friend, Carrie Cummings and her three children, Jamie, Brent, Tracy; and four grandchildren, Haleigh, Carter, Emma, and Kirsten; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Modest, and a sister Barbara.

Delane Poppe, 63
Funeral services for Delane Eldon Poppe, 63, of Lennox,
Mr. Poppe died Saturday, July 20, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls.
He was born on May 8, 1950 to Eldon and Elaine (Bothwell) Poppe. He married Kathy Hotvet on Nov. 20, 1971. After graduating from Dakota State in 1972 he taught and coached in Oldham, S.D., George, Iowa and Madison, S.D. In May of 1983 he began working for the U.S. Postal Service in various positions, retiring in 2011 after over 28 years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, Lennox; daughter, Kristine (Bryan) Plack, Harrisburg; sons, Chad (Naomi) Poppe, Brandon, Nicholas (Monica) Poppe, Harrisburg and Matthew (Rachel) Poppe, Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Ainsley, Maddox, Easton, Hayden, Brecken and Anderson; siblings, Larry (Wanda) Poppe, Esteline, Myrna (Steve) Keppen, Volga, Rod (Kathy) Poppe, Bruce, Ranae (Greg) Fritz, Colman; in-laws: Linda Koelin, Brookings, Owen (Jan) Hotvet, Sioux Falls, Mike (Kathy Jo) Hotvet, Wentworth; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Milton and Eva Hotvet and many other family members.

John Swain, 18
John David Swain, 18, of Sioux Falls, went missing on May 11, 2013 in Bismarck, N.D., and was recovered on June, 26, 2013, in Poplar, Mont.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Sioux Falls Christian High School.
Grateful for having shared his life is his parents, David and Pat Swain, Sioux Falls; brother, Ben (Rachel) Swain, Valley Springs; four nieces and nephews, Mason Blair, Payton, Lauren and Logan Swain; special friend, Rosa Lam of Hong Kong, China; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Noble and Imogene Swain and George and Dorothy Thorson.
