Off-season preparation makes for in-season success

Students in Brandon Valley have been busy throughout the summer preparing themselves for the upcoming athletic and marching band seasons. It is truly inspirational to see the dedication these young people demonstrate during the off-season.
The weight and conditioning training available this summer brought more than 250 student-athletes to campus to do the non-glamorous work it takes to prepare them to excel at the AA and AAA (football) levels. Students participated in summer leagues and more recently summer camps to hone their skills in a variety of sports. Football camp ended last week and volleyball camp is underway. The cheer and dance teams have been learning choreography in preparation for their competitive season to begin.
The official start of fall sports practices is just around the corner. Given the amount of preparation we have seen this summer we know that our athletes will be ready to compete at the highest levels. We wish all our teams the very best this year.
If you drive down Holly Boulevard you will see the dedicated Marching Lynx in band camp. The complex music and drill gets introduced during camp and the team building that makes more than 130 individuals into a single synchronized unit begins. We look forward to our first look at the new competition show at Marching and Melon Madness on Aug. 29.
The annual Pigskin Classic is the kickoff to the football season and will see the Lynx taking on rival Sioux Falls Roosevelt. This event includes a variety of activities organized by the BV Athletic Boosters and provides a great community atmosphere.
Tennis, golf, cross country, volleyball, soccer and competitive cheer and dance round out the fall sports. Each has devoted student-athletes who work hard to be the best.
Win or lose, these students make us proud to call them Lynx. It will be a busy fall supporting our wonderful students as they represent us in competition throughout the state and region. And, let’s not forget all those coaches, sponsors and directors who lead, inspire, instruct and model what it means to represent Brandon Valley in the proud Lynx tradition. The students’ dedication is matched step for step by these great people.
