Brandon Valley’s varsity boys club soccer team kicked off their 2013 season Friday evening with a 3-1 win against the visiting Rapid City Central Cobblers.

There was excitement right away in game, taking place at the second minute when Braydon Reindl put the ball in front of the net and Isaac Sissoko nearly finished it into the goal.

Despite the miss, Lynx fans did not have to wait long for their team’s first goal. In the fifth minute, Jordyn Henderson took a free kick from 30 yards out. Henderson’s kick curved the ball around the wall of defenders and into the net just out of reach from the Cobblers goalkeeper.

In the 23rd minute, Sissoko put a well-placed corner kick in front of the Cobblers net. Ryan Williams redirected the ball through the fingertips of the Central goalkeeper and into the goal.

In the second half at the 58-minute mark, the Cobblers intercepted a pass at midfield, converting it for a goal to make it a 2-1 game.

Not wanting to be outdone, both teams kept up an intense back and forth pace before the final score of the game came in the 70th minute on a corner kick from Riley Swenson to Cody Woessner. Woessner connected with a header to bounce the ball into the net.

Brandon Valley’s 3-1 win wasn’t the only the only event to celebrate Friday night. For the first time in the young McHardy Park Soccer Complex history, the game was played under the lights. The lights are the result of a cooperative effort of the City of Brandon’s Park and Rec program and the Brandon Area Soccer Association.

The Lynx boy’s club team hits the road for Watertown this Saturday and will host Sioux Falls O’Gorman next Monday, Aug. 26.

Brandon Valley’s junior varsity boys didn’t have the same fortune as the varsity boys, dropping a 4-1 loss in their season opener.

The Cobblers hit pay dirt first in the seventh minute. Five minutes later, the Lynx responded when Tucker Loosbrock advanced the ball to Keaton Reindl. Reindl then dribbled up the left side out-hustling a Cobbler defender to shoot the ball into the Central goal for the team’s lone goal.

The Cobblers went on to score two more goals in the half to take a 3-1 edge into the break.

The final goal of the game came early in the second half (49th minute) when the Cobblers scored on a shot that bounced off the Lynx goal post into the net.
