Lady Lynx soccer returns with improved defense

Marlon Mollett won’t make any predictions on how this year’s Lady Lynx club soccer team will fare this season, but he does make one promise: “I’ll try to do my best to make us better every year,” he said.
Coming off a 4-7-3 season – the program’s best record in at least three seasons – Mollett is building the team around a nucleus of eight senior girls, which are among the seven returning letterwinners: Courtney Arney, Kim Knochenmus, Megan Peltier, Alana Hall, Ellie Williams, Paige Wright, Abby Lusk and Jackie Berg.
“I just hope we do better than what we did last year,” Mollett said. “We’re very competitive and I have a lot of confidence and faith in them.”
Mollett says the team’s defense and goalkeeping is much improved from last season. “We had great players last year,” he said, “but we have some underclassmen coming up and I think they’ve progressed really well.”
Former BVHS soccer standout Ashley Limmer has come on board to help out coaching the goalkeeper staff that includes seniors Lusk and Berg. “She’s (Limmer) done a good job coaching that for us,” Mollett said.
Besides a winning record last season, the Lady Lynx are also coming off a sixth place finish at the state tournament. The team has a goal of getting back to the state show again.
“We’re going to work at it, I guarantee you we’re not going to lay down,” Mollett said.
Three senior girls – Peltier, Williams and Hall – have been selected as team captains.
