In one of their best match-ups of the season, the Lady Lynx club soccer team was defeated 2-0 by the Washington Warriors Tuesday night in Brandon at the McHardy Park Soccer Complex.

“We put up a good fight,” said Lynx coach Marlon Mollett. “We pressured a lot and had chances to score.”

The Warriors got two goals off of corner kicks – one coming in each half.

Washington out-shot the Lynx 14-6. In goal for Brandon Valley were Haley Hoeke and Abby Lusk.

Once again, the JV girls showed their heart in a very tough battle. This was a rematch of earlier season game, and with everyone back, the Lynx hoped to challenge.

They did and very well against a vastly improved SF Washington team.

The Lynx jumped out to early first half lead on a goal by Kate Forster, assisted by Morgan Tekrony.

The Warriors equalized on a penalty kick later in the first half.

The second half was seesaw battle. Emily Thompson put in a valiant effort with 22 saves. The Warriors got in a shot to finish the game at 2-1. The Lynx kept trying and actually had a goal to make it 2-2 (by Kate Forster). But an unfortunate off sides call overruled that. Morgan Tekrony caught the goalkeeper napping and got in a shot right at the end of the game, but it didn’t quite go in.

I am very proud of their heart and effort. We have many young players and they are learning the importance of playing a full 80 minutes. The penalty kick was frustrating but such things happen and the girls kept working hard which I am proud of.

shots on goal were 7 for Lynx and 29 for Washington.
