A longtime Brandon Valley coach was recognized for his longtime relationship with the Eastern South Dakota Conference.
At halftime of Fridayís football game, Lynx cross country coach Larry Beesley was presented the ESD Conference Award of Merit. This award was started in 2001 by the Conference to recognize individuals who show leadership in the areas of sportsmanship and professional ethics that furthers the goals of interscholastic sports and promotes positive conference relations.
Beesley is the first Brandon Valley recipient of this award. His ESD affiliation began as a distance runner at Madison High School, who was then an ESD Conference member. At Madison, Beesley was a three-time ESD Conference cross country champion and helped his team secure Madisonís only team ESD title in 1973. On the track, Beelsey was the two-mile ESD champion three times and set the conference record each time, a record that still stands today. He was also the one-mile champion twice and was a member of three relay championship teams.
At Brandon Valley, Coach Beesley has been the boys and girls cross Country coach for 28 years and has led the boys teams to two conference championships and last year, the girlís conference title.
