Kelley Lehfeldt is Brandon’s new Postmaster.

On Friday, Eunice Roozenboom, manager of postal operations for zip codes 570 and 572, made Lehfeldt’s position official with a traditional swearing-in before family, friends and co-workers.

“I’m really looking forward to this because I live here and can be more active in the community,” said Lehfeldt, who succeeds Dennis Heilman, who retired from the position approximately four years ago. Since that time, the Brandon Post Office has been staffed with temporary postmasters.

Roozenboom, who selected Lehfeldt for the position, said she feels she made the right choice. “It’s a pretty big honor to have the postmaster title,” Roozenboom said. “This is a busy office, but she has a lot of knowledge.”

Lehfeldt has a 16-year association with the postal service. Prior to moving to Brandon five years ago, she first worked as a clerk and then a supervisor in the delivery and processing center in Fargo, N.D. After moving here, she performed customer service duties in the district office in Sioux Falls before advancing to postmaster.
“It (being Postmaster) is different from what I’m used to doing,” she said. “I was used to more strategy and problem-solving (for postal staff) and how to meet goals type of work. Here, your customers are in the community.”

Besides finding a career with the postal service, Lehfeldt also found her husband, Trevor, there, too, where they met as co-workers in Fargo. The couple has six children, ranging in age from 8 to 18. Trevor also works for Postal Service at the processing center in Sioux Falls.
