BROOKINGS - Frost Arena hosts a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader Friday, Nov. 1, but the next day won’t be exactly quiet.

The South Dakota State University gymnasium is the site for a hub level robotics competition that is slated to draw 14 high school teams. BEST Robotics hub director Kim Prohaska says the robot competition Nov. 2 also is a fun and free event for the general public.

The teams will have had 42 days to build a robot to compete in three-minute matches against other teams.

Entries come from Baltic, Brookings, Castlewood, Colman-Egan, Career and Technical Education Academy in Sioux Falls, Elkton, Jackson County Central in Minnesota, Mitchell Christian, Mitchell High School, Mobridge-Pollock, Northwestern in Mellette, Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller, Warner and Watertown.

The opening ceremony is at 10 a.m. with matches beginning at 10:30 a.m. The semifinal rounds are slated for 2 p.m.
